Course Description:

The Ethical Decision-Making in Safety Management Specialist (ESMS) course is designed for safety professionals who face numerous challenges daily and wear many hats. As regulators, leaders, negotiators, mentors, and educators, safety professionals must constantly balance production with safety. This course will discuss the importance of ethics in workplace safety, highlighting its role as one of the most crucial guiding principles ensuring the well-being and safety of individuals under their care.

This course is ideal for safety professionals, managers, safety and risk professionals, and leaders responsible for ensuring workplace safety who are looking to deepen their understanding of the ethical dimensions of their roles.

Students will learn how to:

• Make ethically sound decisions in safety management, ultimately contributing to a safer and more ethical workplace environment.
• Comprehend and define ethics from a safety professional's perspective and its importance in maintaining safe working conditions.
• Recognize the human worth and the obligation to protect individuals from harm in the workplace.
• Gain the knowledge and tools to navigate complex challenges, such as balancing productivity demands with safety policies.
• Develop a commitment to prioritizing human welfare and minimizing risks despite competing interests or pressures.

The average completion time is approximately 6 hours. You have up to six months to complete the course.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will attain the designation of Ethical Decision-Making in Safety Management Specialist (ESMS). With this certificate, the student will have acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities to:

• Comprehend and define the ethical considerations in workplace safety.
• Recognize, identify, and assess the moral implications of various courses of action in safety management.
• Develop, implement, and manage an inclusive and supportive environment where employees feel valued and empowered to voice safety concerns without fear of retaliation.
• Apply ethical frameworks to make choices that uphold the highest standards of safety and integrity.

Prerequisites:

The Ethical Decision-Making in Safety Management Specialist (ESMS) course is a foundational course that requires no prerequisites.

Continuing Education Units:

(0.60) CEUs are offered for this course. As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. CEUs will be reflected on the Certificate upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Partial credit or adjusted CEUs will not be awarded for individuals who do not successfully meet the criteria for achievement of CEUs.

Online Exams:

The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive a certificate. You have two opportunities to pass each exam.

Recertification:

A refresher course and exam will be required every five (5) years. The cost of this recertification is $395.
