- access_time 24:00 hours / 2.4 CEUs
Description:
The 24-Hour HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Technician Course is designed for personnel who will respond aggressively to hazardous substance releases or potential releases for the purpose of stopping the release at its source. This course satisfies the training requirements set forth in OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) standard, 29 CFR 1910.120(q).
Technicians trained under this standard operate at the offensive level, taking direct action to control, contain, and mitigate hazardous substance emergencies. Training emphasizes hazard recognition, risk assessment, protective equipment, containment operations, and coordination within the Incident Command System (ICS).
Upon completion of this course, participants will have the knowledge and skills necessary to respond safely and effectively as a member of a HAZMAT team at the Technician level. NASP highly recommends that additional PRACTICAL training be included for emergency responders, including, but not limited to, PPE selection and use, confinement and containment techniques, review of your site-specific ERP, and decontamination procedures.

- Analyze hazardous situations using basic hazard and risk assessment techniques.
- Determine appropriate response actions based on the results of hazard analysis.
- Select and apply proper PPE for hazardous substance response.
- Demonstrate correct use of advanced respiratory protection equipment.
- Implement advanced techniques to stop or control hazardous substance releases.
- Operate specialized tools, equipment, and materials to conduct leak control procedures.
