Course Description:

Through our user-friendly online platform, students will be engaged in a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses the latest industry standards, regulatory requirements, and advanced testing methodologies.

Acquire practical insights into sample collection procedures, testing protocols, result interpretation, and legal implications, ensuring a thorough understanding of the entire testing process. Course curriculum is designed to satisfy the requirements of 49 CFR 382.603.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to:

  • Define and interpret DOT regulations as they relate to drug and alcohol testing,
  • Recognize and identify common controlled substances and their effects,
  • Identify, describe, and analyze the effects of alcohol on the body and mind and recognize the effects of alcohol impairment,
  • Identify and differentiate the various stages of the drug and alcohol test procedures, from specimen collection to analysis,
  • Implement procedures for post-incident testing and reasonable suspicion testing,
  • Comprehend the consequences of non-compliance,
  • Define and apply best practices for managing a DOT drug and alcohol program,
  • Implement the proper requirements for maintaining accurate records of testing results

Prerequisites:

The DOT Drug and Alcohol Specialist (ADS) Course is a foundational course that requires no prerequisites.

Continuing Education Units:

(0.70) CEUs are offered for this course. As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. CEUs will be reflected on the Certificate upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Partial credit or adjusted CEUs will not be awarded to individuals who do not successfully meet the criteria for achievement of CEUs.

Online Exams:

The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive certification. You have two opportunities to pass each exam.

Recertification:

A refresher course and exam will be required every three (3) years. The cost of this recertification is $95.
