Description:

The NASP 10-hour Construction training is designed for entry-level workers to act as an orientation to occupational safety and health. This course will help teach you how to improve workplace safety and recognize hazards covered by OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926.

As a student, you will learn industry best practices for reducing incidents and injuries, the major hazards you might encounter in construction work, and solutions to recognize, control, and protect against them.

Students must receive additional training, as required by OSHA standards, on specific hazards of the job in addition to this training. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a NASP 10-Hour Construction certificate and wallet card.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to:

  • Explain the importance of OSHA in providing a safe and healthful workplace to workers covered by OSHA.
  • Recognize OSHA Standards references applicable to specific hazardous conditions and practices
  • Recognize the aspects of 1926 Subpart C (General Safety and Health Provisions)
  • Implement preventative measures for accidents in their workplace
  • Describe types of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the requirements for use in OSHA standards
  • Recognize the requirements for fire protection in the workplace
  • Identify types of rigging equipment used to protect employees
  • Identify the critical health and safety hazards of welding and cutting in the construction industry
  • Identify common electrical hazards and related OSHA standards
  • Understand the importance of scaffolding for workers in elevated workplaces
  • Implement measures for protecting workers and equipment from dangerous falls
  • Recognize the hazards associated with working in or around excavation sites
  • Identify the safety requirements necessary to protect workers around concrete and masonry jobs
  • Identify the precautions and hazards to protect workers using explosives or blasting agents
  • Protect workers who perform jobs on or around stairways or ladders at worksites
  • List and describe the hazards and prevalence of confined spaces

Prerequisites:

The 10-HR Construction Course is a foundational course that requires no prerequisites.

Continuing Education Units:

One (1.00) CEUs are offered for this course. As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. CEUs will be reflected on the Certificate upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Partial credit or adjusted CEUs will not be awarded for individuals who do not successfully meet the criteria for achievement of CEUs.

Online Exams:

The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive certification. You have two opportunities to pass each exam.

Recertification:

This course does not require a refresher; however, it is strongly recommended that employees take this course at least once every five years to stay up-to-date regarding regulatory changes.
